Can You Help Me Get My Mail?

Yet another busy day, I left my mail in my tiny drawer and almost forgotten about it. Luckily I have Kacy, my Black Capped Conure to help me get my mail from my drawer.

Kacy is of a great help to me, and I am really happy that I have such great Personal Assistant!

Easy Way To Bird-Proof Your Windows

Bird proofing your windows can be a simple, yet effective way to prevent your parrot from accidentally flying out of the window.

Kacy enjoying the scenery through the window

With all the windows properly bird proofed, I can enjoy the beautiful scenery with my Black Capped Conure, Kacy and not worrying about her flying out of the window.

Although the flight feathers of Kacy are always trimmed, it does not indicate that she will not fly out of the window.

Just imagine, in a situation whereby Kacy is startled, she can gain enough flight power and elevation, covering distance just like any flighted parrot. If she is near an open window, she may fly out just like that.

I would rather take the extra precautionary measures to ensure my parrot safety. It’s always better to be safe than sorry.

Kacy Makes me Feel Like a Kangaroo

It’s another busy night, I was back on my work desk busily checking and replying business emails on my trusty Macbook Pro.

Mum slept early today because she was down with a bad flu. Kacy, my Black Capped Conure was left alone in the hall with her favorite toys. But couple of minutes later, she made her way to my bedroom and join me on my work desk.

While Kacy was tenderly caressing herself and enjoying the warm cosiness, I took a few pictures of her with the iSight Camera (a built-in webcam on Macbook Pro) without her noticing it.

The Netherlands and Spain will be playing in the 2010 FIFA World Cup Final on this Sunday. Everyone (including myself) is anxious to know who will eventually lift the World Cup Trophy at Soccer City this Sunday.

Chocolate is Toxic to Parrots

I was on my way returning home, passing by a void deck where I saw an old chinese man with a Green Ringneck Parakeet. It wasn’t the Green Ringneck Parakeet that caught my attention, but was actually the old man’s actions.

The old man was actually feeding the Ringneck Parakeet with some iced milo (a kind of chocolate beverage). I was alarmed.

I decided to go forward and confront the old man.

“Are you feeding the parrot with iced milo?” I asked the old man politely in mandarin.

The old man smiled and replied in mandarin, “Yes! He (Green Ringneck Parakeet) loves it! It is his favorite drink.” I wasn’t smiling, instead I was worried when I heard this.

“Uncle, please don’t feed him (Green Ringneck Parakeet) with milo. Milo contains chocolate, anything that contains chocolate is toxic to parrots!” I explained to him in mandarin.

The old man rebuked me in mandarin, “I’ve been feeding him all the time with small serving and it won’t cause any harm! Anyway he’s not dead yet!”

The old man was peeved. He ignored my advice and continued to feed the Ringneck Parakeet with iced milo.

I didn’t persist and left the place in the end. This incident left me deeply pondering whether is the old man being stubborn, being ignorant or being selfish?

Surprise Write-up on BirdTalk Magazine

Couple of weeks ago, I was fortunate that a dear friend of mine, Jiaxing lended me a few past copies of BirdTalk magazine that I missed. I was really nice of him!

I always enjoy reading BirdTalk magazine because of the great tips and information on parrots I got hold every time in each issue. While I was reading through the dated March 2010 copy last night, something caught me by surprise.

I found my name published in the magazine!

Kacy the Black Capped Conure reading BirdTalk Magazine

Too bad, it wasn’t in an announcement of contest winners for the magazine, but a published column with a short write-up that I wrote about Kacy, my Black Capped Conure!

I quickly called Kacy into the picture. She hurriedly hopped on the table and took a peek at the short write-up published in the magazine. Even though it was a very short write-up about Kacy, but she seems delighted reading it!
